Warhammer the Old World joins the WNC community. You will now find club league results posted in the WNC Old World section, so be sure to reach out if your club is in Wales and you want to join the national league!
Oli Mather has written a few words below about his experience and hopes for the future:
I’m Oli, the current captain of Team Wales ToW (and also the captain for Team Wales for the ninth age). I’m based in Cardiff so am very lucky to have the spectacular Firestorm Games as my local store! We run a new club called the South Wales Dragons Wargaming Club on Thursdays to get regular practice in and we are also dabbling in Mordheim so that’s a lot of fun too.
I started playing rank and flank games shortly after the end times (bad timing I know!) when I was a university student and I popped to Firestorm to try to reignite my boyhood passion of Warhammer. The Vale Renegades introduced me to the ninth age and I haven’t looked back. I currently own armies for Beastmen, Warriors of Chaos, Chaos Dwarves, Daemons, Wood Elves, Lizardmen, Tomb Kings, Empire and Ogres so definitely see myself more on the chaotic side of the spectrum! My primary army at the moment is Beastmen for both ToW and T9A but I get bored easily, so who knows how long for! I’ve attended 4 ETCs so far for the ninth age, captaining 2 of them and will be off to Spain this summer for my 5th.
Competitive Teams Warhammer is where my passion lies as it opens up so many interesting dynamics within the game and it’s awesome being a part of something bigger, rather than just battling for your individual glory. With the bold new world of The Old World, I’ve been selected to be the captain of the Welsh ToW team to try to transfer some of my experience to the developing community. I hope that I can mould the team into something great as the year progresses and when we head to Germany in September I hope we can do Wales proud. Our main goals are to be a great group of mates and to have a great ride along the way, ensuring our opponents have an awesome experience too. Team Wales should always be in contention for the Best Sports prize imo.
I’ve also been selected as a Global Chairman for the first WTC Clash of Nations event (the aforementioned world champs in Germany). Hopefully my experience of large international events will help to create an awesome experience for all and introduce this growing community to what the top level of Warhammer can be.
I’ve also started running ToW events, my first, The Welsh Open had 50 players (I think the largest outside of WHW) and was well received by all. I’ve decided to bite the bullet and run another in October, The Welsh Open: The Rise of Sylvania so watch this space! I’m expecting it to be even bigger and will throw in a Halloween theme to add to the fun, with free banshees for all.
The event can be found in the Old world section of the website. Join us in welcoming Oliver and the Old World community to the WNC.
