Introducing Team Wales 40k 2025!

KEVIN HUGHES
Playing Captain
As WTC 2025 approaches, Team Wales sees major changes, with only three of last year’s players returning. This fresh lineup brings excitement for the future, especially with the WNC helping uncover new talent.
Now in my fourth year (and third as captain), I’m proud of how far we’ve come. From relying on mercenaries and rented gear, we now have record applicants, full resources, and strong WNC engagement. It’s been a team effort, and the future looks bright.
This year’s squad is inexperienced but talented and driven. Our goal remains breaking into the top 20—challenging but achievable.
Josh asked about my favorite faction—tough choice! I started with Blood Angels in 7th, then Guard/BA in 8th. Sisters were my first WTC army, earning a top-7 individual finish. Year 2 brought overpowered Eldar (easy wins), while Year 3’s defensive Votann didn’t suit me. This year, I’m testing skew lists, hoping for balance changes favoring Sisters.
The WNC is key to Wales’ 40K future, uniting players, finding hidden talent, and growing the community. Post-WTC, we’ll dive into WNC teams and an invitational—no polystyrene terrain or cold pasties in sight! With this momentum, Team Wales will keep rising, and I couldn’t be prouder.

JOSHUA TOWNLEY
Playing Vice-Captain
I feel incredibly fortunate to be part of Team Wales for a second year, and this is even more true now that I’m serving as Vice Captain. I’ve been playing Warhammer for over 25 years and there’s nothing more exhilarating than playing on the national stage, but what excites me the most is seeing our community grow stronger together.
The Welsh National Champions (WNC) came from a simple idea – that we’d all improve if we had more chances to play and learn as a nation. I helped get it started, but its success belongs to every club organiser, TO, and player who shows up. The way Welsh players have embraced it humbles me.
As Vice Captain, my goal is simple: help build a foundation where Wales can compete consistently. That means pairing players where they’ll shine, learning from every match, and making sure everyone feels valued. I don’t care about personal glory—I care about seeing this team climb.
The future of Welsh 40K isn’t about any one person – it’s about building systems that fosters our talent and helps the next generation shine. If in five years the WNC is still running strong and Team Wales has climbed the tiers, that’s the legacy that would mean something. Not because of me, but because we built something lasting together.

Alex Hughes-Daly
I’m Pierre Alexandre Hughes-Daly—though just call me Alex. At 35, I live north of London, though my family roots trace back to Aberystwyth. I returned to 40K during the pandemic via Tabletop Simulator and now co-run Try Hard Wargaming, a competitive 40K Discord community.
My love for competition inevitably led me to tabletop wargaming. While I dabble in singles events, teams are where 40K truly shines—balancing the game’s variance and uniting friends toward a shared goal. Thematically, I’m drawn to humanity’s struggle in the grimdark future. Imperial factions are my go-to, relying on grit, guns, and maybe some chemical enhancements.
Representing Team Wales in 2025 means a lot to me. It’s a way to connect with my Welsh identity (and far less painful than following Welsh rugby). Wearing the flag this summer fills me with pride—I aim to showcase Wales as a rising 40K nation while giving every opponent a memorable experience.
This year’s squad is our strongest yet—a tight-knit team building on past foundations. We’re all aligned, pushing for the wins needed to climb into Tier 2 seedings in future WTCs. Now, it’s about putting in the reps and delivering results. I can’t wait to head to Leoben with the team, play some stellar games, and make Wales proud.

Andrew Lewis
A member of Team Wales and Club Leader for the Vale Renegades. Like many, I played 40K as a kid, took a break for “adulting,” then returned in 2013—and have been hooked ever since. I’ve been competing for over a decade, but the last few years have seen me attend far more UK events.
After years in the hobby, I’ve amassed a ridiculous pile of models, but my heart belongs to the Astra Militarum and Chaos Space Marines—old favorites that never disappoint.
Being part of Team Wales this year fills me with pride. Welsh 40K is thriving, with events across the country bringing clubs together and strengthening our fantastic community. I’m excited to represent Wales and help grow the scene for years to come.
For the team, my goal is clear: push for Tier 2 and challenge the big nations. We’ve got serious talent in this squad, and with solid preparation, I believe we can make Wales proud.

Gareth Harris
Like many, I started in 1998 at age 8 after wandering into a Games Workshop. That Christmas, the 2nd Edition box set sealed my fate—I painted every Space Marine Blood Angels red and never looked back. I played until 4th Edition, drifted away, then fully returned in 2020, falling in love with painting Thousand Sons.
With more time and (finally) adult funds, I dove into Necrons after Indomitus—partly because TSons took forever to paint! Joining a local club led me to UKTC events, where I discovered my love for team play. Dead Red Gaming became my crew, and the social side—Airbnbs, post-game Magic, and laughing at mistakes—became just as important as the games themselves.
These days, I main Necrons, occasionally dust off my TSons, and recently ran 13 Chaos Knights Wardogs. Beyond playing, I’m passionate about growing the hobby—I help organize events and leagues at Mighty Melee, my local game store.
Representing Team Wales
Being part of Team Wales means everything. I’m proud to represent our country and its thriving community. The WTC brings a mix of excitement and nerves, but I know we’ll give it our all, play our best, and make Wales proud. Here’s to climbing the tiers together!

Gareth Jones
I’m Gareth Jones, born and raised in Wales—though I’ve since moved to England for my wife’s medical care, those Welsh hills and valleys will always be home. That deep connection makes representing Wales at WTC this year incredibly special for me.
My Warhammer journey began at the tail end of 2nd Edition, and I’ve loved both the game and its community ever since. I even worked at Games Workshop in Shrewsbury for a while, running demo games to introduce new players to the hobby.
While I’m best known for my black-and-yellow Chaos Knights, I thrive with high-pressure factions like Custodes and World Eaters. Over the decades I’ve collected nearly everything—Space Marines, Death Guard, Sisters of Battle, Votann—you name it, I’ve probably fielded it at some point. Now, I’m focused on helping Team Wales grow stronger in the coming months and years. By building on our past experiences, I believe we can climb the rankings and make our mark on the international stage.

Jonathan “Taff” Jones
Born and raised in Carmarthen, West Wales, I first stepped into the 41st Millennium in 2012. The hobby instantly clicked—I’ve been strategizing and painting ever since.
Raven Guard stole my heart early with their shadow-war tactics, but these days I march to war with Gladius Ultramarines—flexible, disciplined, and ready for any challenge.
Beyond the dice rolls, I’m driven to strengthen Welsh gaming. Whether it’s mentoring new players or helping organize events, I want our community to thrive and compete on the global stage.
Being selected for Team Wales is a dream realized. The chance to represent my country—and our tight-knit community—is an honor. Now, the real work begins: pushing Wales into Tier 1 within the next few years.
This summer marks my WTC debut. I can’t wait to experience the electric atmosphere, test my skills against the world’s best, and forge friendships across borders. Win or lose, I’ll carry the Welsh flag with pride.

Liam Keane
I’m Liam Keane, captain of the Five Roads Buccaneers (5RB) based between Llanelli and Carmarthen. After a 20-year break, I returned to 40k five years ago and quickly became hooked, attending tournaments since February 2023. While I play many armies, Thousand Sons and Daemons hold a special place in my heart.
What draws me to Warhammer is the perfect blend of hobbies, though the gaming aspect excites me most. Nothing beats weekend road trips to major events with friends – the social side is just as important as testing my skills against top competitors.
Being part of Team Wales fills me with pride, especially as I prepare for my first WTC against the world’s best players. Our squad is undergoing an exciting rebuild, uniting Welsh teams to create something special. I genuinely believe we can push for a tier position in future events – the potential is there and the future looks bright.
