WNC members set UKTC on fire!

This weekend, over 20 WNC members from across Wales attended the Manchester GT SUPER-MAJOR. The Manchester GT is noteworthy not only for how many impressive words it contains, but also for hosting nearly 340 players, making it one of the largest Warhammer 40K events in the world and a true showcase of talent!

Let’s take a moment to celebrate two exceptional WNC members who finished in the top 15 and each received a ‘Best in Faction’ award! In this article, we interviewed Fer and Ben about their experiences.

Fer – Interview

Fer walked away with an impressive 9th place, having won all 5 of his games and earning the coveted UKTC medal for best in faction XENOS. We ask him about his experience.

Fer is a member of WNC North and plays for the Deeside Defenders. As a veteran player, he admits to primarily playing on WTC terrain but saw an opportunity to try something different with his TAU at the UKTC.

Fer designed his list with UKTC terrain in mind, stating, “It only works on UKTC terrain due to the good line of sight.” Many of his opponents would agree, especially considering the list’s speed. It heavily punishes players for going second!

Highlights

Fer shared that the best part of the event for him was the “incredible opponents,” especially his fourth-round adversary, Jonathan ‘Taff’ Jones from WNC – South’s Vale Renegades. In true warrior spirit, Taff sacrificed a guaranteed draw for a chance to win based on a secondary objective card draw—what a legend!

The other two highlights included ‘Spending the Saturday knight with the boys’ and some great gaming moments including ‘1 riptide one tapping a vindicator’ and ‘breachers killing 10 chosen in one go’… Ouch!

Lowlights

Having to play somebody from my own club in the final round (more on that later), even though is secured Fer a good final position and Xenos win, Fer said he ‘would have preffered to play against a top-tier player even though I would probably loose’.

I wonder who this mystery man was?…

BEN – Interview

Fer’s final opponent and second mention in this artcle…. Ben Attended the Manchester GT with his Imperial knights, winning all but one game in the final into our very own Fer! Not to worry his performance still bagged him 14th place and best in faction Imperium!

Ben is treasurer of the Deeside Defenders and has played a pivotal role in upskilling the membership of that club to perform in these tournamanets.

Leading by example, Bens lowest score all weekend was 83

Ben assures us that the coveted best Imperial knights player in the world is now within his grasp 😉

Highlights

To walk away with an award was Ben’s highlight of the weekend, ‘winning best in faction was nice and 14th place was way above expectations’!

Lowlights

Playing not 1, but 2 members from the same club! Ben jokes that his final round into Fer was a forgone conclusion based on their expereince of the match up, having played into that knight eating machine on more than one occation.

Future Events

It is our hope that the WNC in your area can look to replicate these great moments, and as Fer said, get the ‘boys’ together and make memories.

Don’t forget to sign up to your local league in the 40k section and share any tournamants and special events that are happening in your area.

If you have any memories to share, please let us know. Remember, the WNC is here to support you!
